Group Work in Hugarafl

Connection, Participation and Empowerment

Hugarafl’s group activities are based on peer support, empowerment and recovery principles. They create a safe community where people learn from one another, build connections and take active steps in their own recovery journey.

Group activities are one of the cornerstones of Hugarafl’s work. They offer people the opportunity to connect with others, gain new experiences, build on their own strengths and actively participate in a community guided by peer support, empowerment and recovery principles. At Hugarafl, we believe that recovery does not happen in isolation, but through connection with others. That is why our groups are not simply a space for learning or activities, but a living community where participants learn from and support one another.

Group Facilitators

Many of Hugarafl’s group facilitators have been through their own recovery journey and want to use their experience to support others. Becoming a group facilitator can therefore be an important step in their own empowerment and recovery. To support them in this role, Hugarafl has developed a dedicated training course for group facilitators, covering topics such as:

Born from the collective ambition of industry veterans and technology innovators, our mission is to expedite the journey of groundbreaking healthcare solutions from conception to global markets.

One of the most important aspects of Hugarafl’s group activities is offering groups based on gender and gender identity.

Following the pandemic, it became clear that the number of men participating in Hugarafl had decreased significantly, and those who did attend often struggled to find their place within the groups. In response, a self-help group for men was established in 2023, facilitated by Grétar Björnsson. The response exceeded all expectations, and the group quickly became one of Hugarafl’s most popular activities. This was followed by self-help groups for women and, later, for LGBTQ+ people. Experience has shown that many people feel a greater sense of safety and deeper connection when they have the opportunity to explore their life stories alongside others who share similar experiences of living with the same gender role or gender identity. These groups have become important spaces for building trust, friendships and self-confidence, while strengthening the Hugarafl community as a whole.
